Beyond the bound. Names what is not within, and therefore not governed by what is.
Old English ūt (out) + sīde (a flank, edge); a compound naming whatever lies beyond a bound and so is not governed by what is within it.
Whatever lies beyond a drawn bound, and therefore is not answerable to whatever governs what lies within it.
